Haley: 'Plenty' of military options available for dealing with North Korea

North Korea on Friday fired a missile which flew over Japan, but resulted in Japanese citizens being told to take cover.

The UN Security Council on Friday strongly condemned North Korea's "highly provocative" missile launch and demanded Pyongyang immediately halt such actions - but did not threaten further sanctions. "There's a dismissal of worldwide concern, unified UN Security Council concerns", he said. "The United Kingdom stands with the people of Japan in face of this bad, egregious, illegal, provocative, reckless act by the North Korean regime, which once again demonstrates their complete disregard for the sovereignty and the citizens of one of their neighbours", the British Ambassador to the UN, Matthew Rycroft told reporters after the meeting of the Security Council. Though they aren't their top choices for the region, Haley and McMaster said, they are available to the President.

Responding to a question, Mattis said he is not aware of any effort on the part of South Korea to shoot down the North Korean missile. "That creates openings for other leaders like President Emmanuel Macron of France to step up and say that actually they are the guys who are going to lead the United Nations more effectively from now on".

Nebenzia urged North Korea to "stop it" and said the only political proposal to resolve the standoff was the joint Russian-Chinese "freeze for freeze". After the new sanctions were imposed Monday, North Korea called for the Security Council to be broken up, accusing it of being a "tool of evil" working for the United States.

President Donald Trump has said America and its allies will never be intimidated and insisted that the US' options for addressing the threat posed by North Korea are both "effective and overwhelming".

With San Francisco or NY in Kim's cross-hairs, would President Trump risk war with the North to defend Seoul or Tokyo in a future crisis?

"In case North Korea undertakes provocations against us or our ally, we have the power to destroy them beyond recovery", added Moon, once seen as a liberal dove.

On the other hand, the USA and South Korea have announced diminishing willingness to talk to North Korea as it continues its provocative missile launches and nuclear tests. "China and Russian Federation must indicate their intolerance for these reckless missile launches by taking direct actions of their own", Tillerson said.

"For those who have said, and been commenting about a lack of a military option, there is a military option", McMaster said. He backed up his words with action, ordering a test launch of South Korean missiles into the sea, on a trajectory precisely long enough to have wiped out the launch site for North Korea's ICBM if the weapons were aimed in that direction. "We must make North Korea understand this", Abe said.

"We call on all nations to take new measures against the Kim [Jong Un] regime", the top USA diplomat said. A trio of missile launches and a hydrogen bomb test that is the communist nation's most powerful to date.

At the beginning of this year, North Korea's Kim announced plans to develop an intercontinental ballistic missile that could strike the USA mainland.
