Nikki Haley to North Korea: 'No problem' letting Mattis deal with you

Nikki Haley to North Korea: 'No problem' letting Mattis deal with you

President Trump said Friday that he is confident the United States' options toward North Korea are "effective and overwhelming". North Korea has launched dozens of missiles under Kim Jong Un's leadership to accelerate a weapons programme created to give it the ability to target the United States with a powerful, nuclear-tipped missile.

North Korea, according to McMaster, is "one of the world's most urgent and unsafe security problems".

"The president's consistent message will emphasize three goals: first to promote peace, second to promote prosperity, and third to uphold sovereignty and accountability", White House national security adviser H.R. McMaster told reporters at the White House on Friday (September 15). "I personally think he slaps the right people, he hugs the right people, and he comes out with the U.S. being very strong in the end", said U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley.

The Security Council scheduled an emergency closed-door meeting Friday afternoon in NY. "And so for those who have said and have been commenting about the lack of a military option, there is a military option", he said, "[but] it is not what we prefer to do".

It did not, however, mention further sanctions against the regime. A resolution in August sought to slash the country's US$3 billion annual export revenue by a third.

"We try and push through as many diplomatic options as we have", Haley said during the White House briefing. "They're better looking than Tom Cruise and we know they can fight better and we know they can fly better", he said, referring to Cruise's 1986 film "Top Gun".

With Haley leading the way, the United Nations has placed increased sanctions on North Korea due to its belligerent behavior regarding its nuclear program.
